I'm currently in Tokyo for a couple weeks for a seminar. It's the cleanest, friendliest, and most fashionable city I've been to yet. biggrin.gif I've only been here for one week and I'm in love. foxheart.gif

Since some of you have been to Tokyo before (or are living here now), do you have any recommendations for things to do? Of course, I'm hitting up all the well-known tourist spots and neighborhoods. It'd be nice to hear from experienced travelers/locals too. Also, I'm looking for some DAI merchandise, naturally! foxgoggles.gif Where should I shop for that?

I'm going to Seoul for work next month as well. Any suggestions for that city would be welcome too! I know absolutely nothing about it.

And while we're at, if you've been to either capitals, share your experiences with others for fun!

Last time I was in Tokyo was in 2006 and on a tight budget. The places I went to were...

* Akihabara (obviously)
* Kamakura to see Daibutsu
* Ginza (frackin' expensive, but they have a Yamaha Store if you play piano and want sheet music)
* Ueno Zoo (go on a clear day. if it's rainy, the animals won't be active)
* Asakusa

I've only been there for 10 days, but check whatever travel guides are in the hotel if you're nearby any cool places.

Just check out whatever CD stores you come across for DAI merchandise.

As for Seoul, I was there in December for two weeks. Also on a tight budget.
You save more buying JMusic cds in Korea than in Japan IMO, but I rarely saw any DAI cds in Seoul... =\

As for places, Korea War Memorial definitely--walking outside is free, but there is an admission fee for the museum.

There are many palaces. I forgot which one I went to, but I know this time of year the scenery would be very nice.

I haven't been to Lotte World, but I want to--it's on the green line for Seoul Metro, stop at Jamsil.

Places to shop: Coex, I-Park, Myeongdong (so many stores).

If you get a chance, eat at a Von's Chicken place. Personally, it's like the Korean version of KFC but IMO better. Go to Seoul University station on Seoul Metro, you're bound to find a branch (so a former student told me).

OH YEAH! And take the cable car to Seoul Tower. There's a teddy bear museum. If you've watched Princess Hours, they have a little corner with memorabilia from the series.

I can't say anything about the night life in either city cuz... that's not my scene.

I lived in Seoul for 2 years. Go to Gwanghwamun to see Gyeongbukgung and the Kyobo bookstore for music and books. Insa-dong is a great place for souvenirs. Deoksugung, Changyeonggung, are some others places to see. If you venture outside of the city Suwon has Hwaseong.

Definitely agreed on most of these, especially Kamakura (excellent day trip) and Asakusa (beautiful temple). Yoyogi Park is also cool -- really peaceful to walk around on a sunny day, plus it's Harajuku- and Shibuya-adjacent. If you go on a Sunday, you'll see all the people who dress up crazy and hang out by the entrance to the park.

You can always check out the photos I took on my trip for inspiration. wink.gif
