I was about to log into my Yahoo! account, when this news article caught my eye:
http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/03/15/japan...n-file-sharers/ I doubt this'll happen and be really effective, but it'll have a huge ripple effect (I mean, sites like YouSendIt and MegaUpload would probably be in a lot of trouble too, you know?) Scariest of all, they said they were going to do something similar in the US very, very soon. What are you thoughts about this? And are you as nervous as I am (this could mean we might not get any new releases from Japan anymore, and we'll have to wait for slow-@$$ YesAsia to send us our stuff. ><;) -------------------- ~Oasis Heart3

very much doubt it will make a difference at the macro level, at least until they really find a way to stick a single internet identity to a single human being... and prosecute those human beings who share files.
stopping piracy will mostly depend on offering a product and delivery experience that is worth paying for. it is funny here that the paper publishing industry is here arguably doing better than audio video entertainment. some trade (general) houses like HarperCollins are starting to give away books online because you guys just love expensive hardcovers so much. and to an even greater extent, perhaps, ditto for academic pubs. OxUniPress is saying flat-out on their blog you guys can file-share the e-books all you want, it will only make you buy the real thing. kind of a digression, i know. But I think it is true. filesharing = free marketing. -------------------- - under construction -

artists are beginning to put the files online themselves. that's what Trent Reznor did from NIN. He upped a torrent of 25 new tracks to PirateBay.

I just did an academic speech for my english class last week, i was talking about how the pirate software should be legalized and not called as STEALING.
Appearantly the prof didn't like my topic, and I got C.. When this class is a communication class, where the score should be based on your speech ability, how you conduct it, NOT THE TOPIC ITSELF! I want to choke him.. btw, for that pirate flash, i found the original version, from Lazy Town, lol pretty cool -------------------- My Blog in English: Stovila's Journal

they really never care to tackle the root cause of the problem, that is PRICE...those music industry people been whining about sales slump yet they never even tried to understand that their market, most of which from developing nations especially students, kids couldn't afford to buy an album that worth maybe their whole week meals...piracy will remains as long as these people remains greed, ignorant & stupid...

Maybe artists should try what radiohead did by offering the cds for whatever the FANS wanted to pay them. This was directly throught the artist as opposed to through the label. Apparently they did pretty good.

there's three cases I know of, where selling their music online was successful. Susumu Hirasawa was the first artist to sell his mp3s online. He's doing pretty well now. There's also Nine Inch Nails and Devin Townsend.
Most musicheads/audiophiles purchase the actual cd, if they really like an album. Downloading FLACs takes up too much damn hard drive space. -------------------- |
