I was watching CNN and they had a report saying that TEPCO had issues with their safety records back in 2002. Now, they are having problems with the same power plant that they had a back in 2002. Crazy stuff.
There's some conspiracy going on as well, saying that the Japanese government might be downplaying this issue by not giving sufficient info to the Japanese media. In defense of the Japanese government, one citizen said that it is common in Japanese culture to "talk around" an issue rather being direct. But then, it is also common in Japanese culture is pride, face and not trying to look weak, which is what happened in 1995 with the Kobe quake when there was a hold up accepting U.S. assistance. -------------------- "In DWO WE TRUST"

i would say the biggest concern right now is the radiation.
It also really worries me that there have been no twitter posts from tomiko since the 11th. thats like 3 days. i hope she is somewhere safe with friends and family. Though its quite possible the internet and the cellphones are all disconnected. it just seems like chaos over there. -------------------- ![]() |

My friend was in Fukushima last year, it's just unreal. Though the crisis is far from over, I can't stop thinking about how much this will alter Japan's future in the world.
Oh and has anyone heard about the UCLA student who went on a racist rant? Read it here. Scroll down for the video. Boy is she getting some hate. -------------------- ![]() Wanna play? |

Though its quite possible the internet and the cellphones are all disconnected. it just seems like chaos over there. I wouldn't worry too much, she's probably getting a hold of everyone she knows and such. If she was okay after the initial earthquake I doubt much happened to her since. My friend was in Fukushima last year, it's just unreal. Though the crisis is far from over, I can't stop thinking about how much this will alter Japan's future in the world. I know...the worst of it is done, but then there's the issue of heaving over 500,000 people displaced. Cleanup is going to take a long time, restoring electricity is going to take a long time, and rebuilding everything...man. It's depressing as hell think about how long people are going to be without homes. -------------------- ![]() |

i've been reading that here in Canada, especially on the west coast, people are scrambling to get potassium iodide pills and a lot of them have been sold out.
I just checked a couple of online stores and a lot of them have been sold out as well. This is just insane! Lucky that I am on the east coast, I just hope the radiation doesn't blow too far away. -------------------- "In DWO WE TRUST"

I am watching AC360 right now and Anderson Cooper really kicked the crap out of PM Kan's spokesperson. Anyone caught that?
I guess it's the last time PM Kan's spokespersonw would be interviewed by an American journalist. -------------------- "In DWO WE TRUST"

50 Japanese nuclear engineers are staying behind at the Fukushima Power Plant to try and prevent a nuclear meltdown. They are getting the same amount of radiation per hour that a nuclear engineer receives in his/her ENTIRE career.
Source. Truly amazing heroes. -------------------- |

Has anyone followed this as religious as me?
Since march there has been around 5 or 6 stories that just simply baffles me, from Tepco relying on tempory (note: untrained, subcontracted, no record / name, never mind training Quite honestly, my view on living and working in japan as changed quite a bit since the earthquake, there's just somethings that is unacceptable. -------------------- "The only thing more important than quality, is speed"
